WORK AREA: All areas of facility



Performs housekeeping and cleaning activities within well-established guidelines and assigned areas.



  1. Receive assignment from manager.
  2. Follow cleaning schedule as outlined for housekeeping department.
  3. Damp dust furniture, light fixtures outside (lift lamp shades and wipe light bulb inside), window sills, radiators, etc. in assigned area.
  4. Damp dust baseboards and corners
  5. Straighten all furniture
  6. Clean all wall vents and thermostats
  7. Spot clean walls
  8. Wash all mirrors
  9. Dry mop floors in all resident rooms and bathrooms. Use treated dust mops, sweep behind doors, move furniture.
  10. Damp mop floors in all resident and public bathrooms, clean and disinfect all fixtures, floors, walls, wash basins and commodes, polish chrome fixtures, replenish bathroom supplies.
  11. Damp dust all ledges around tile walls in bathrooms, check all vacant rooms daily to keep fresh.
  12. Vacuum rugs.
  13. Report any repairs needed to maintenance (such as leaky faucets, toilets, loose tile, broken window panes, nuts or screws missing, broken blinds, beds in need of repair).
  14. Empty waste cans and reline with plastic bags; collected refuse is deposited in the dumpster.
  15. Perform terminal cleaning duties according to established procedure (see nursing procedure manual) in resident rooms when patient has been discharged or transferred and prepare room for new occupant.
  16. Perform cleaning duties in isolation units when resident is transferred according to established procedure (see nursing procedure manual).
  17. Perform emergency housekeeping where accidents occur.
  18. Report supply and equipment needs to Supervisor for replenishing.
  19. Adhere to safety policy of nursing home while performing job duties.
  20. Before entering residents rooms for cleaning, knock on door and announce “housekeeping” both when door is opened and closed.
  21. Maintain equipment used in performing duties.
  22. Perform other duties as directed by the Supervisor.
  23. Serves a positive ambassador to GHHCC residents, visitors, and the community.



Job is considered medium with frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling of cleaning equipment and supplies of up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. The employee is on feet for most of the work day. The employee must stoop and kneel, reach, talk, hear, and see. The employee is exposed to noxious odors, infectious waste, communicable diseases, and the possibility of bodily injury from moving mechanical parts. Is also subject to reactions from heavy dust and/or disinfecting solutions.



Must work independently.

Must be able to solve minor problems related to their job; confident interdepartmental communication skills.

Adhere to all safety and infection control policies and procedures of the nursing home while performing job duties.

Maintains equipment and work area in a safe, neat and clean manner and reports problems to supervisor.

Monitors nursing home’s resources in relation to cost of supplies, equipment and time.

Required to work in other nursing home areas as appropriate

Follows nursing home policies and procedures.

Respects residents’ rights and dignity.

Reports any suspected resident abuse as required by government regulations and the nursing home policies.

Attend all required inservices and seminars.

Mandatory inservices must be met within time required.

Required to follow established policies in regard to tardiness, attendance and dress code.

Serves as a positive ambassador to the Center, residents, visitors, and community



High School diploma or GED equivalent.
