Registered Nurse

This is a position requiring the nurse to use clinical skills to maintain consistently high levels of resident care within NYS; facility; and budgetary guidelines. The position requires recognition and acceptance of the concept that the nurse’s main obligation is to see that others have the ability to do their job, including information to see that the department and facility goals are carried out. Monitoring and reporting progress towards those goals is implicit in this concept.





1. Reviews and evaluates patient care and documentation for appropriateness and quality.


2. Assigns and monitors staff and develops staff awareness, pride, and skill.


3. Identifies unit, staff, resident and family needs and intervenes to develop solutions. Works with inservice to recognize and improve staff skills.


4. Monitors safety statistics for staff and residents. All supervisors act as a resource for staff and assist in teaching and enforcing compliance with facility policy and procedures.


5. Meets all reporting requirements promptly including bringing up staff problems and complaints promptly for resolution. The Director of Nursing must be consulted as issues and concerns require.





This work is considered medium with frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. The work involves a variety of duties. The employee must deal with people and perform effectively under stress, and attain precise set standards and limits. The employee must walk, stoop and kneel, crouch, reach and handle, finger, talk, hear, and see.







Is responsible and accountable for own practice.


Must treat resident and employee information as confidential material.


Follows nursing home policies and procedures.

Respects residents’ rights and dignity.


Reports any suspected resident abuse as required by government regulations and the nursing home policies.


Attend all required inservices and seminars.


Mandatory inservices must be met within time required.


Required to follow established policies in regard to tardiness, attendance, and dress code.


Serves as a positive ambassador to the facility, residents, staff, visitors, and the community.





Must possess a current license (or eligible for license) to practice as RN in the state of New York. BSN degree desired.
